Best Friends!

Introduction

*Though I thought the issue was resolved months ago, I go a letter on Friday from Qwest's debt collector agency that they had finally heard from Qwest and they would cancel my account with them and remove it from my credit report if it had gone there yet. Sooo...pretty much don't believe them at all.

Pfizer Fraud

This was a part of a graphic design project and I though I'd share:

Little background image which was part of my presentation notes. Very scattered, to lazy to really re-write it.:

Pfizer is the, self proclaimed, “world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical company” which “..develops [and] manufactures” many of the prescriptions we are familiar with today. Very recently Pfizer was in the new after being found guilty for fraud. They had to pay a $2.3 billion settlement making it the largest healthcare fraud yet, in addition to their previous three settlements in the past decade.

Pfizer had been illegally promoting four drugs for uses that had not been approved. On of them, the one that our label prescription label shows was for the anti-inflammatory drug, Bextra, used to treat people with arthritis usually as a painkiller.

Though Pfizer settlement only occurred earlier this year, the drug Bextra had been recalled in 2005 because of a rare skin condition and at the urging of the FDA. Before they recalled Bextra, however, Pfizer had pushed to market Bextra beyond its uses and paid reps a $50 bonus if the got doctors to add Bextra to the standard care for patients before and after surgery (claiming they would control pain). The FDA had not approved Bextra for this because they felt the benefits didn’t outweigh the costs, namely that they induced cardiovascular problems like heart attack.

Also, Bextra was only approved at low doses (10 mg once a day or 20 mg twice a day) to relieve minor aches, but Pfizer once again pushed for more serious conditions and at heavier doses which they pushed onto sales reps.

Qvvest Sucks

After the horrendous and continuing debacle with Qwest Communications, I was inspired to create a fictional book about a communication company called Qvvest. Why? Because I have a complete lack of normal coping mechanisms and if you had to hear me rant about Qwest you would go crazy, and at least this way you'll laugh.

Scene:
Qvvest is an evil company which creates an account which you never wanted, sends you a bill, says it will delete it for you so you won't have to pay, but then send your bill to a bill collector and is a big meany about it. Lying to you repeatedly when you call them, which you have three times.

I will try to post a few pages everyday. And since no one follows my blog, I will also try to pretend that they do so to find my motivation.

*The problem has tentatively resolved itself, pending more trouble.

QWEST SUCKS

My Email to qwest:

I am NOT a qwest customer but you have sent me a bill for services I never ordered. I have called THREE times canceling the service and EVERY SINGLE TIME the person I have spoke to has said that they will clear charges and cancel my account. It should be illegal for you to use my information to charge me. You have to worst customer service I have ever encountered.

I was going to order Qwest service online, but after talking with my friend opted out during the order process because I didn't want a contract. The next day a guy called me back to make sure i didn't want it (first call). I assured him I DID NOT want Qwest.

Then a few days later a modem was sent to my house. I called again and telling them I did not order service. The lady said I could just return the package back and would be refunded and I canceled my account. I returned the package promptly within two days. I even got a return letter in the mail about the package a few days after that so i figured everything was going as planned.

Maybe a week later I got mail about my account. I called AGAIN and canceled my account and was assured by customer service agent Amanda that she would clear my charges and cancel my account and gave me a confirmation cancellation number: D4153***.

Then maybe a week after that I got a bill. I called again to CANCEL my account and explain that i NEVER ordered an account, was put on hold for thirty minutes and was finally assured that the charges would be credited and that I would not have to pay anything and my account would be canceled ((the rep then had the nerve to spend 10 minutes trying to cajole me into buying qwest service)).

Then today I got a letter from West Asset Management telling me that my fictional account was turned over to them for me pay the charges. I am NOT paying charges on something that I didn't order, that I don't want, and that I have been trying to get rid of.

I hate you Qwest.

I hope you don't survive the economic downturn. You are trying to steal my money and that's bad. That is very very bad.

Dear Sprint

Dear Sprint,

Thanks for not knowing anything about your phones. I spent probably 2 hours today talking to various Customer Care and tech support people about picturemail charges. "You must be sending them wrong, you must be sending emails" they say and then they refer me to this stupid page: "How can I avoid data usage charges when using Sprint PCS Picture Mail?" And do you know what Sprinty? I already know. Unlike you, I am fully aware of how my phone functions. I have the new LG Lotus which, forces you to connect to the internet in order to send picturemail. Did you know that? DID YOU? Yes, I go to the picture mail menu, select compose, find my contact, and push send. But where are these charges coming from?!

I hope you know that everyone I talked to gave me a different answer and no real solutions. I don't expect everyone to know how each phone works, but a problem like this, which has been complained about in many forums , you should know about an should have a solution for.

If a plan is called "unlimited messaging- text, picture, and video" than I feel like that's what it should do and you shouldn't have more charges if you have a newer phone. If you know the phone MAKES you use data, than you should be told upfront that you'll have to upgrade plans instead of stealing peoples money. Right? That's what you do for the Blackberries.

In fact, let me do a small recreation of me considering the blackberry pearl:

Me: "I like this phone. I think I'll get it"

BlackBerry: "Hold on there, Jacklynn, if you get me you'll have to upgrade your plan to a plan your father will never get. I'm sorry. I want you to be my owner so bad and I'm totally worth the extra $50"

Me: "Aw shucks, okay. I'll get the LG Lotus instead which doesn't say anything about upgrading my plan or warn me that sprint is stupid"

BlackBerry: "it's probably better this way. I'll be even cooler when you grow up, are successful, and can afford internet on your phone"

Me: "I agree. Thanks for being honest with me."

END SCENE

Not that I have anything against Lotty, really its just Sprint that I hate. I'm sad that I have another year before I can cancel my contract--which I probably wont' do anyway.

Sincerely,
Unsatisfied Customer

Ps. I hate you.

Stupid Cheap Wyoming

"UW Resident Undergraduate Tuition Will Not Increase for 2009-10 Academic Year"

Jan. 23, 2009 -- The tuition costs for resident undergraduate students at the University of Wyoming will not change for the third consecutive year.

In approving tuition rates today (Friday) for the 2009-10 academic year, the UW Board of Trustees voted increases of about 5 percent for non-resident undergraduates, resident and non-resident graduate students and law and pharmacy students but did not alter the resident undergraduate cost of $2,820 per year.

...
Still, UW's resident undergraduate tuition and fees are the lowest among the 25 institutions in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program. The average UW student paid $3,621 for tuition and fees for the 2008-09 academic year, $824 less than Utah State University, the No. 24 school on the list.

UW's resident undergraduate tuition will remain at $94 per credit hour for the 2009-10 academic year.

Non-resident undergraduate students will see an increase of 4.98 percent for 2009-10, with the hourly rate jumping from $341 to $358 for a total annual cost of $10,740."

Wyoming has some of the most money in the state, in fact I read an article talking about how hard economic times hasn't really hit Wyoming yet. Well, instead of putting the burden of costs onto students, why don't they use some of their ungodly reserves? I hope they better increase scholarships and what not too. It's only a little over ten dollars, right? What about this year when the student government also voted for an 80% increase of their budget which students have to pay for.

I wish Wyoming didn't spend so much money on decorated all their lightpoles with stupid rocks, tearing up Prexy's to make a stupid rock sitting area. The courtyard with in the Fine Arts building is useless---especially it's very expensive fountain that is only turned on like twice a year. What's more, residence get better scholarships. I understand that this is a public university and that they should be looking out for their residence who paid taxes for the school, but still, as an institution they should want to encourage diversification of students. I went to another public school and they were much more eager to have students from other states come to their school---and they had MUCH less money than Wyoming.

Ugg.
